The type species (lectotype) of the genus Callithamnion is Callithamnion corymbosum (Smith) Lyngbye.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Camontagnea oxyclada (Montagne) Pujals.

Origin of Species Name
Adjective (Latin), in the form of a broom; fastigiate (Stearn 1973).
