Type Species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Bartoniella is Bartoniella crenata (J.Agardh ex Mazza) Kylin.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Marionella prolifera (Kylin) F.S.Wagner.
Origin of Species Name
Adjective (Latin), producing offsets, bearing progeny as offshoots (Stearn 1973).
