Type Species
The type species (lectotype) of the genus Callithamnion is Callithamnion corymbosum (Smith) Lyngbye.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Callithamniella tingitana (Schousboe ex Bornet) Feldmann-Mazoyer.

Nomenclatural note
"Callithamnion ? aegagropilae Funk. This species was described, with doubt on its generic attribution, from Capo Miseno (Gulf of Naples, Italy) by Funk (1922: 236). It should be noted that Funk himself noticed some similarities between his species and Callithamnion tingitanum Schousboe ex Bornet [basionym of Callithamniella tingitana]."
