Taxonomic note
"A slide labelled Ectocarpus helophorus deposited by Batters in the Natural History Museum, collected on 27 January 1887 from Berwick-on-Tweed, revealed erect branched filaments up to 250 µm long arising through the host material, but lacking in sporangia and with cellular dimensions of 39%u201345 × 18%u201327 µm, which are much larger than those in the description and illustrations given by Rosenvinge, and with no obvious markedly elongated lower cells on the filaments. Pending further studies, this record for Britain must remain suspect." (Fletcher 2024: 449-450). - (16 October 2024) - M.D. Guiry
