Type locality: Mouth of the Morlaix River, Finistere, France (Woelkerling 1998: 336). Lectotype: collector not indicated; August 1877; PC Foslie no. 12, Thuret-Bornet Herbarium (box collection, filed under Lithothamnion coralloides f. flabelligera (Woelkerling 1998: 336).

Adjective (Latin), chalky, limy (Stearn 1973).
