This is the type species (holotype) of the genus Anadyomene.

Adjective (Latin), flabellate, fan-shaped (Stearn 1973).

Type locality: "in Corsicae mare" later (Lamouroux, 1816: 366) stated to be “Dans la Mousse de Corse des pharmaciens” (Alsidium helminthochorton) (Silva, Basson & Moe 1996: 755).
