The type species (lectotype) of the genus Mastocarpus is Mastocarpus mammillosus (Goodenough & Woodward) Kützing.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Sarcodia montagneana (Hooker f. & Harvey) J.Agardh.

Type locality: "Java" ZOllinger No. 2385. b." [Java, Indonesia (southeast Malang province)]; (Kützing 1847: 775) Notes: A more precise type locality was first reported by Sonder (1854: 2)
