Taxonomic note
According to Dawson (1962) this appears to be a dwarfish, little-corticated variant of Pleonosporium dasyoides and may ultimately be reduced. He notes that it is recognized by its smaller stature (6-20 mm.) and the restriction of corticating filaments to the very base. He also notes that a single collection available to him (D. 8010 from 30-38 m. at Cortes Bank) agrees with Gardner's description but does not lend credence to specific recognition. - (11 May 2006) - G.M.
