The type species (lectotype) of the genus Callithamnion is Callithamnion corymbosum (Smith) Lyngbye.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Acrochaetium barbadense (Vickers) Børgesen.

Occasionally cited as "Callithamnion pedunculatum Crouan frat. in Mazé & Schramm (1878: 143) but the name is credited in Mazé & Schramm (1878: 143) to Kützing (1849: 641).
