The type species (holotype) of the genus Polyphysa is Polyphysa australis Lamarck.

This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Parvocaulis myriosporus (A.B.Joly & Cordeiro-Marino) C.W.Nascimento Moura & J.C.DeAndrade.
