Nomenclatural note
Illegitimate: superfluous at the time of publication as Conferva littoralis Linnaeus, 1753 was included in synonymy. The name is thus nomenclaturally Pylaiella littoralis (Linnaeus) Kjellman but is generally considered a taxonomic synonym of Ectocarpus siliculosus. - (05 March 2009) - M.D. Guiry
Taxonomic note
It exists also Ceramium confervoides Bory 1823, with Basionym Conferva fracta O.F.Müller 1787, but it was illegitimate: unwarranted change of epithet. (See INA) - (21 April 2025) - Salvador Valenzuela Miranda
