The type species (holotype) of the genus Polysiphonia is Polysiphonia urceolata (Lightfoot ex Dillwyn) Greville.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Lophosiphonia obscura (C.Agardh) Falkenberg.

Adjective A (Latin), very small (Stearn 1983).
