The type species (holotype) of the genus Schizymenia is Schizymenia dubyi (Chauvin ex Duby) J.Agardh.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Neodilsea borealis (I.A.Abbott) S.C.Lindstrom.
