Basionym
Tubularia umbellata Esper

Type Information
Type locality: Antilles, West Indies; (Huisman & Kurihara 2006: 19) Holotype: (Huisman & Kurihara 2006: 19) Notes: Papenfuss, Mshigeni & Chiang (1982: 419) give this as the type locality of Galaxaura umbellata Lamouroux 1816. They consider that Tubularia umbellata Esper was not valid when Lamouroux published his work and that Lamouroux should be taken as the author of Galaxaura umbellata. According to Silva et al. (1996:109. 110), the type locality is probably West Indies: it seems likely that Esper's "ostindichen" was error for "westindischen" (Silva et al. 1996: 109,110).
