Taxonomic note
Cormaci, Furnari & Alongi (2014: 275) comment: "Ernst (1904: 206) described from Posillipo (Naples) the new species Udotea minima. From observations in culture, Meinesz (1980: 124) concluded that U. minima Ernst was simply a growth form of U. petiolata. Later, Nizamuddin (1987) transferred to the genus Flabellia both U. petiolata andUdotea minima, maintaining the two species as distinct. Conversely, we agree with Meinesz (op. cit.) in considering the two taxa as conspecific." - (21 July 2015) - M.D. Guiry
