Type locality: Ko Kahdat, [Ko Chang Archipelago], Siam [Thailand]; (Woelkerling & al. 2005: 480) Holotype: Schmidt; 15.ii.1900; collection depth: 5 fathoms; TRH; C19-3421 (Woelkerling & al. 2005: 482) Notes: Isolectotype: C, no number (Verheij 1993: 192). [Designated by whom?]. Habitat; on dead coral tines, 9 m depth (Gabrielson et al., 2023: [7]).

Taxonomic note
The slides associated with the lectotype collection in TRH,..., show numerous cavities, probably the remains of tetrasporangia, formed on a layer of elongated cells. This character places the species close to S. ptychoides and S. episoredion (Verheij 1993: 193) - (02 October 2012) - G.M. Guiry
