Nomenclatural notes
Withell et al. (1994: 293) recommend that Gracilaria harveyana J. Agardh (1885) be conserved against Polyides flagelliformis Sonder (1845). Conservation of the epithet harveyana is rejected by Womersley (1996: 27). Silva et al. (1996: 171) note that Withell et al. (1994) used the combination Gracilaria flagelliformis, but that this name is invalid as it was not accepted by its authors. That combination is validated by Womersley (1996: 25). - (24 Feb 2009) - Wendy Guiry

Both G. harveyana J. Agardh and G. paradoxa J. Agardh appear to be based on Harvey's ms name of Chondria paradoxa given to Clifton specimens from Swan R., W. Aust.; apparently J. Agardh first gave it the name G. harveyana and later reverted to Harvey's name paradoxa (Womersley 1996: 27). - (24 Feb 2009) - Wendy Guiry

This is a marine species.
