Type locality: Nordsee, auf Scytosiphon filum, Leathesia marina, etc. [Helgoland] (Pringsheim 1862: 8). Lectotype: original illustration by Pringsheim (1862, pl. XIX; reprint pl. II) selected by Burrows (1991: 102): C: CAT2450 (dried material of isolate RN090704-1) (epitype) (Nielsen et al. 2013: 52).
