Type Species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Gloiopeltis is Fucus tenax Turner.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Gloiopeltis furcata (Postels & Ruprecht) J.Agardh.

Type locality: Avalon, Santa Catalina Island, California; (Dawson 1953: 94) Type: On rocks in the middle littoral zone; (Dawson 1953: 94) Notes: Dawson (1953: 94): holotype not designated, but syntypes are N.L.Gardner's collections under no. 2250 in Phycotheca Boreali-Americana.

Adjective (Latin), very small; minute (Stearn 1973).
