This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Rugulopteryx suhrii (Kützing) De Clerck & Coppejans

Adjective (Latin), producing offsets, bearing progeny as offshoots (Stearn 1973).

This is a marine species.
Type locality: said to be Madagascar, but Algoa Bay, Cape Province, South Africa (Silva, Basson & Moe 1996: 597). Holotype: S s.n. (De Clerck 2003: 175). Notes: Silva et al. (1996) recommend consulting Kützing (1859: 5) for more information on the type of this species. De Clerck (2003) notes that Papenfuss (1940: 207) showed that the type specimen came from Algoa Bay rather than from Madagascar as stated in the protologue.
