The type species (holotype) of the genus Dictyota is Dictyota dichotoma (Hudson) J.V.Lamouroux.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Rugulopteryx marginata (J.Agardh) De Clerck & Coppejans.

Type locality: Port Phillip, Victoria, Australia; (De Clerck 2003: 180) Lectotype: LD; 49606 (De Clerck 2003: 180) Notes: De Clerck (2003) notes that lectotypification was established by Womersley (1967: 212). According to Womersley (1987), the type was collected by F. von Mueller.
