The type species (lectotype) of the genus Caulerpa is Caulerpa prolifera (Forsskål) J.V.Lamouroux.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Caulerpa taxifolia var. distichophylla (Sonder) Verlaque, Huisman & Procaccini.

Type locality: Western Australia; (Silva & al. 1996: 818) Holotype: Preiss; MEL; 503814 (Womersley 1984: 258) Notes: According to Womersley (1984:258) the type locality is probably near Fremantle.

Taxonomic note
According to Turan et al. (2011: 380), C. distichophylla closely resembles C. taxifolia. They note that molecular data have corroborated the morphological similarities and suggest that C. distichophylla is a brittle form of C. taxifolia (Fama et al., 2002; Stam et al., 2006). - (01 November 2012) - G.M.
