In association with other sciaphilous encrusting corallines, species of Peyssonnelia and Palmophyllum crassum at c. 0.5 m depth, 2-3 m away from the entrance of a cave with good water circulation and protected from light and direct wave exposure (Athanasiadis 1999). - (3 May 2011) - Wendy Guiry

Holotype locality: Pidgeon Cove, 500 m south of Sarti, Sithonia Peninsula, Makedonian Province, North Greece (Athanasiadis 1999: 240). Holotype (fig. 1): Athanas. No. 79; 1 July 1984; GB SC010784 (Athanasiadis 1999: 240).
