This is a marine species.
Type locality: Rottingsund, Frøyen, Trondheimsfjord, Norway (Woelkerling 1998: 341). Lectotype: Foslie; 10.vii.1894; no habitat data on type. TRH B25-2773, includes slides 154, 157 and five unnumbered slides; designated by Woelkerling, 1993: 74 (Woelkerling et al. 2005: 376). Notes: Isolectotype: PC, Foslie, no. 4, Thuret-Bornet herbarium (box collection, filed under Lithothamnion dimorphum).
