The type species (lectotype) of the genus Nitophyllum is Nitophyllum punctatum (Stackhouse) Greville.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Neoharaldiophyllum mirabile (Kylin) J.C.Kang & M.S.Kim.

Type locality: Canoe Island, San Juan County, Wahington, USA; (Kang et al. 2017: 528) Notes: Isosyntypes: UC279580, female and tetrasporic, coll H. Kylin, 24 June 1924 (Kang et al., 2017, citing Hommersand & Fredericq, 1997).

Adjective (Latin), to be wondered at, wonderful, marvellous, extraordinary, admirable (Smith & Lockwood 1933).
