Taxonomic note
"It should be noted that when Petersen (1908: 64) described the aforementioned species, he stated in the diagnosis: '... Syn. Cer. rubrum (Huds.) Ag. decurrens pro parte cum dubio. Nomen specialis decurrens usurpari non potest, quia Hormoceras decurrens Kützing non ad formam meam referendum est.'[Synonym of Ceramium rubrum (Hudson) Ag. var. decurrens pro parte with doubt. I haven't used the specific name decurrens because Hormoceras decurrens Kützing is not referable to my form]" (Comraci & al. 2023: 157) - (07 November 2023) - M.D. Guiry
Distributional note
"This species was reported from Alexandria (Egypt) by Shabaka (2018: 206, tab. 2) based on the report by Aleem [1993: 91, as. C. rubrum (Hudson) C. Agardh var. decurrens [Kützing] J. Agardh] without any comment. Considering that infraspecific taxon was based (albeit with doubt) on Hormoceras decurrens Kützing (traditionally referred to as C. circinatum), in absence of further data and/or adequate documentation, the aforementioned report is considered doubtful and the occurrence in the Mediterranean Sea of C. rosenvingei remains to be confirmed. This species was listed with no comments from Mediterranean coast of Egypt also by Einav (2023: 12, tab. 3.):" (Cormaci & al. 2023: 156). - (07 November 2023) - M.D. Guiry
