The type species (holotype) of the genus Myrionema is Myrionema strangulans Greville.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Myriotrichia clavaeformis Harvey.

Nomenclatural note
The species is not treated by Jaasund (1965), although the illustration in that publication (fig. 23) of the myrionemoid stage of Myriotrichia filiformis is identical with Myrionema irregulare (Athanasiadis, 1996). - (11 May 2006) - G.M. Guiry
