Type species
The type species (lectotype) of the genus Caulerpa is Caulerpa prolifera (Forsskål) J.V.Lamouroux.

This name is currently regarded as a taxonomic synonym of Caulerpa hodkinsoniae J.Agardh

Adjective A (Latin), with rings (Griffith 2004).
