Verification of Data
Users are responsible for verifying the accuracy of information before use, as noted on the website Content page.

Nomenclatural note
The combination Lithophyllum trochanter proposed by Huvé (1963: 150), is invalid since the basionym was not cited (Art. 33.2 of I.C.B.N., Greuter et al., 1994). Woelkerling (1998: 259) validated the combination. - (11 May 2006) - G.M. Guiry

Taxonomic note
According to Babbini & Bressan (1997) this species is a synonym of Titanoderma byssoides var. trochanter (Bory) Babbini & Bressan. Furnari et al. (2003) note that Goniolithon byssoides (Lamarck) Foslie, Titanoderma byssoides (Lamarck) Chamberlain & Woelkerling and Lithothamnion byssoides (Lamarck) Philippi are homotypic synonyms of Lithophyllum byssoides, a species distinct from L. trochanter. However, they consider that Italian records with the specific epithet “byssoides” published before Wolkerling’s (1998) paper, should be referred to L. trochanter. - (11 May 2006) - G.M. Guiry
