Type Species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Gelidiella is Echinocaulon spinellum Kützing.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Parviphycus antipae (Celan) Santelices.

Type locality: Punta Norte, Isla Cedros, Baja California, Mexico; (Dawson 1953: 84) Holotype: Dawson; Oct. 30, 1951; On shells of living Haliotus; HAHF; Dawson 10543, in vial 2691 and in tray 56 (Dawson 1953: 84) Notes: Fragment of type (LAM no. 500230, now at UC) examined by Santelices (2007).
