Type Species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Ectocarpus is Ectocarpus siliculosus (Dillwyn) Lyngbye.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Desmarestia aculeata (Linnaeus) J.V.Lamouroux.
