A sublittoral species ranging from just below low tide level to 10 m deep (Womersley 1994: 236).
Type locality: Georgetown, Tasmania (Womersley 1994: 236). Lectotype: TCD, Herb. Harvey Alg. Aust. Exsicc. 418 (Womersley 1994: 236).
