Type Species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Himantothallus is Himantothallus spiralis Skottsberg.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Himantothallus grandifolius (A.Gepp & E.S.Gepp) Zinova.

Type Information
Type locality: Granatovy Island, Rauer Islands (East Antarctica); (Mikhaylova & Sokolova 2020: 1122) Notes: Syntypes: LE A0000258 and LE A0000259, both from Granatovy Island.
