This name is currently regarded as a taxonomic synonym of Aglaothamnion sepositum (Gunnerus) Maggs & Hommersand

Type information
Type locality: Ballycastle (Dixon & Price 1981: 137). Lectotype: Brown; undated; BM(K) (Dixon & Price 1981: 137). Notes: Other type localities: Bantry Bay, coll. Hutchins (Dillwyn, 1807, pl. 85). Other material: BM, 2 specimens. GL, 2 specimens. Comments: the typification was descussed in detail by Dixon (1960, 1964). The choice of lectoype was made on the basis of the statement by Dillwyn (1809:35) that Dawson Turner provided the original description of the entity. The position became confused as a consequence of the latter figure (Dillwyn, 1809, pl. 6G) based on a specimen of Dasya, so that the epithet arbuscula came to be applied in both Callithamnion and Dasya. Despite previous resolution of this problem (Dixon, 1960, 1964), Harris (1966) stated that he had been unable to locate original material.

Adjective A (Latin), Resembling a small tree (Stearn 1992).

Nomenclatural notes
Both Dasya arbuscula (Dillwyn) C.Agardh and Eupogonium arbusculum (Dillwyn) Zanardini are based on Conferva arbuscula Dillwyn (1807: pl. 85), a species that, however, should be referred to as the genus Aglaothamnion (Maggs & Hommersand, 1993: 114). The correct name of Dasyacean taxa erroneously based on C. arbuscula is Dasya hutchinsiae (Dixon 1960: 315).
