The type species (lectotype) of the genus Galaxaura is Galaxaura rugosa (J.Ellis & Solander) J.V.Lamouroux.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Galaxaura diesingiana Zanardini.

Type locality: Isipingo Beach, near Durban, South Africa; (Silva & al. 1996: 106)
