Type locality: Bohuslän, Sweden (Silva, Basson & Moe 1996: 373). Type: LD herb. alg. Agardh 19087 (Yoshida 1998: 869).
Asia: Japan (Yoshida, Nakajima & Nakata 1990).
According to Maggs & Hommersand (1993) this species is a synonym of Aglaothamnion byssoides (Arnott ex Harvey in W. J. Hooker) LHardy-Halos & Rueness.
