Type Species
The type species (lectotype) of the genus Galaxaura is Galaxaura rugosa (J.Ellis & Solander) J.V.Lamouroux.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Amphiroa anceps (Lamarck) Decaisne.

Type Information
Type locality: Swan River, Western Australia, Australia; (Silva & al. 1996: 220) Notes: This type locality was first recorded by Harvey (1849: 98) (Silva et al., 1996); see Harvey et al. (2013: 119).

Origin of Species Name
Adjective B (Latin), changing colour, variously coloured (Stearn 1973).
