The type species (lectotype) of the genus Goniolithon is Goniolithon papillosum (Zanardini ex Hauck) Foslie.
Status of name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Neogoniolithon brassica-florida (Harvey) Setchell & L.R.Mason

Participle B (Latin), becoming shrubby (Stearn 1973).

According to Silva et al. (1996) this taxon apparently lies within the circumscription of Neogoniolithon brassica-florida but has not yet been transferred or reduced to synonmy
This is a marine species.
Type locality: "Malediverne" [Male Atoll, Maldives] (Woelkerling et al. 2005: 262). Lectotype: Gardiner; iv.1900; no habitat given. TRH A12-659 (Woelkerling et al. 2005: 99). Notes: This type locality was first recorded by Woelkerling (1993: 59)
