Type Species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Leptocladia is Leptocladia binghamiae J.Agardh.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Taylorophycus laxus (W.R.Taylor) E.Y.Dawson.

Type locality: Point Hughes, Cabo San Lazaro, Baja California, Mexico; (Taylor 1945: 163, 164) Holotype: W.R. Taylor no. 34-603; 7 Mar. 1934; Hancock Foundation; (Taylor 1945: 163, 164) Notes: Taylor’s type is on sheet 172, including slides 1428-1431 (Dawson, 1953: 89). Type dredged off Point Hughes (Taylor, 1945).
