Type information
Type locality: Indrapura, Western Sumatra (Silva 1996-to date). Type: Dr. C Klasi; 1888; (Silva 1996-to date Notes: According to Carlile et al. (2011:1381, 1382), Schmidle did not specify the collector or the type specimen. They note that a collection of specimens by Weber-van Bosse from West Sumatra in 1888 (collection n.686), housed at Leiden Herbarium, was annotated by Islam in 1960 as C. spicatum and is listed under this name in his review of the genus (Islam 1961). They consider it likely that Schmidle based S. spicatum on these specimens and they designate Leiden 0835368 (Weber-van Bosse #686) as neotype.

Adjective (Latin), bearing spikes.
