Type Information
Bremen; Kiathanabach, Bosporus; (INA 1996) Notes: Simonsen (1987) designated the whole slide 62/1 as the lectotype of N. capitellata, while illustrating considerable morphological variation among Nitzschia specimens on this slide. Witkowski et al. 2000 noted that the lectotype slide likely includes several species of Nitzschia... (Desianti et al., 2015: 105).

Invalid: introduced without a description by Hustedt (in A.W.F.Schimidt pl. 348: fig. 57-59, 1922). After 1 January 1908, an illustration with analysis (see Art. 38.9 and 38.10) is not acceptable in place of a written description or diagnosis.
