This name is of an entity that is currently accepted taxonomically.
Included in some publications as "brachygona" but the name "brachygonia" was originally used by Montagne (1843: 305). - (13 Aug 2014) - M.D. Guiry
"Ribera et al. (1992), in the note 9 (probably erroneously inserted), on the basis of the paper by Riouall (1985) stated that this species have been accidentally introduced from Japan into the Thau Lagoon (France). However, in Riouall's (1985) paper the species is not cited. According to Verlaque (2001) it was never recorded from Thau Lagoon." (Cormaci et al. 2012: 424). - (27 Aug 2015) - M.D. Guiry

This is a marine species.
Type locality: Hab ad littora insulae Divae Catarinae, ad Brasiliam (as Fucis parasitians?), Spiridiae clavulatae inmixta lecta." [Ilha de Santa Catarina, Brasil] (Montagne 1843: 305). Lectotype: Gaudichaud; PC herb. Montagne (Lipkin & Silva 2002: 41). Notes: Isotypes in L, PC, TCD.
