The type species (holotype) of the genus Chrysosphaera is Chrysosphaera nitens Pascher.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Hibberdia magna (J.H.Belcher) R.A.Andersen.

Type locality: Wimpole, Cambridgeshire [England]; (Belcher 1974: 139) Holotype: 6 March 1972; from an ornamental pond; BM; (Belcher 1974: 139) Notes: "It is being maintained in the CCAP collection as strain number 911/1 and type material has been deposited at the British Museum (Natural History)."
