Type locality: Oberrhein-area, Germany; (Index Nominum Algarum) Lectotype: fig. 1 in Schmidle 1896 (designate by Komárek 1974): an air-dried and formaldehyde-fixed sample of strain UTEX LB1755, deposited at the Botanical Museum at Berlin-Dahlem as B 40 0040784 (designated in Bock et al. 2013: 337) (epitype) (Bock & al. 2013: 337) Notes: Isoepitype: maintained at the culture collection of Algae at Univ. of Austin, Texas.
