Type Information

(1996) recommend consulting Weber-van-Bosse (1913a: 77) for more information on the type locality of this species. They cite 'various in Indonesia, including Solor and Semau' as syntype localities. Leliaert & Coppejans (2006: 666) note that several locations were indicated in the original prologue: 'Timor Labuan, etc'; only a single specimen from the Siboga expedition, identified by Reinbold and labeled in his hand was found in L and they designate this as lectotype.

Nomenclatural note
Leliaert & Coppejans (2006) regard this as the earliest name for an entity that includes Cladophoropsis fasciculatus (Kjellman) Wille. The latter has priority (M.J. Wynne, pers. comm. 23 May 2007). - (23 May 2007) - G.M. Guiry

Taxonomic note
According to Silva et al. (1996: 794) the name Valonia cladophora has been misapplied to this species by various authors. Please consult the original reference for more details. - (11 May 2006) - G.M. Guiry

Habitat note
Grows epilithically on horizontal to vertical surfaces, often on sand-covered substrata, or epiphytically on various algae, seagrasses and mangrove pneumatophores( e.g. Sonneratia), or epizoically on sponges, from the high intertidal to shallow subtidal (down to 3 m depth), on exposed and semiexposed shores, sometimes extending into mangrove creeks (Leliaert & Coppejans 2006 quoting Cribb 1960 and Egerod 1974, 1975). They note that it often grows intermixed with other filamenous Chlorophyta. - (18 June 2010) - G.M. Guiry
