Type Species
The type species (lectotype) of the genus Denticula is Denticula elegans Kützing.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Plagiogramma staurophorum (W.Gregory) Heiberg.

Type Information
Type locality: Lamlash Bay, Lough Fine, Scotland; (Gregory 1857: 496) Notes: "Original material examined: Three preparations curated in the British Museum of Natural History (BM-1205, BM-1418, and BM-1422, gathered originally at Loch Fine and Arran [61]) were examined using LM; unprocessed original material is not available."(Kaczmarska et al. 2017: 31). Lough Fine is the type locality. No lectotype was selected.
