Cells hexagonal, dorso-ventrally compressed, 44-59 µm in length, 40-53 µm in width; epitheca small, conical; hypotheca pentagonal with strongly notched posterior end; thecal plates thick with weak reticulation, small pores and nipple-like processes; nucleus situated centrally; cytoplasm lacking chloroplast and eyespot
