The type species (holotype) of the genus Titanoderma is Titanoderma pustulatum (J.V.Lamouroux) Nägeli.

Status of name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Lithophyllum corallinae (P.Crouan & H.Crouan) Heydrich

Type information
Type locality: Banc du Chateau et Baie de la Ninon, Rade de Brest, France (Chamberlain 1991: 67). Lectotype: P.-L. & H.-M. Crouan; CO (Chamberlain 1991: 67). Notes: Designated by Chamberlain (1991: 67, fig. 208).

Origin of species name
Adjective (Latin), of or on corallines (Stearn 1973).

No synonyms are currently included in AlgaeBase.

Taxonomic notes
Woelkerling & Campbell (1992) include Titanoderma in Lithophyllum but the genus is mantained by Irvine & Chamberlain (1994, p. 89). Womersley (1996: 231) considers L. corallinae to be the accepted name whereas Silva et al. (1996: 273) cite T. corallinae as the accepted name.
