This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Alvikia littoralis (Chihara, Nakayama & I.Inouye) Shin Watanabe & L.A.Lewis.

Type locality: Japan: Iwate Pref.: Heita Bay, Kamaishi, saline pond (11.vii.1990); (Chihara & al. 1994: 233) Notes: Type: figs 1, 2, & 11. Type culture at the Marine Biotechnology Institute, Kamaishi Laboratories, Kamaishi, Japan.

Adjective (Latin), pertaining to the shore (Stearn 1973).
