Nomenclatural notes
"This species was first recorded in the Mediterranean Sea from Cape Matifou (Algeria) by Feldmann & Feldmann (1948: 90) in the paper in which they, based on morpho-reproductive characters of their specimens, transferred Callithamnion bipinnatum P.L. et H.M. Crouan to the genus Aglaothamnion proposing the new combination A. bipinnatum. For the description of Algerian thalli they simply stated that they well corresponded to those studied by Levring (1937: 115, as Callithamnion bipinnatum) and that, like those, they were monoecious. Afterwards, this species was reported, with no comments, by Boudouresque (1974: 148) in a floristic list of seaweeds of Eastern Pyrenees (France) and later by Boudouresque et al. (1984: 47) in a second list of seaweeds of the same area, in which, with no comments, they refer to the previous citation. More recently, the species was reported, with no comments, in a floristic list of algae of Northern coast of Cyprus (Taskin et al., 2013: 149, tab. 1)." (Cormaci & al. 2023: 300). - (16 November 2023) - M.D. Guiry
Frequently attributed to G. Feldman-Mazoyer (Recherches sur les Céramiacées de la Méditerranée occidentale, 1940 '1941': 192); however, the basionym was not cited and the name should be attributed to J. Feldmann & G. Feldmann as above. - (26 January 2008) - G.M. Guiry
